The Moon is similar to the carved and painted headdresses used in the Tlasila (Chief’s) dances of the Kwaguilth people from Fort Rupert, B.C. The carvings are made on circular plaques that are then attached to the Chief’s head. In olden times, the headdresses were filled with bird’s down which was gradually released during the dance by the head movement of the dancer. The down swirled onto the dance floor as an indication of the peace being offered to the audience.
