In the Ojibway tradition, a turtle is one of special importance because of it’s role in creation. Some indigenous people believe that the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud in order to create Mother Earth.

To most tribes of indigenous culture, the turtle also represents wisdom, healing, spirituality, health, safety, longevity, protection and fertility.
