The polar bear (Nanuq) is the most important animal in Inuit folklore. He reigns as king over the ice-floe. One legend states that the Inuk hopes to reincarnate into a bear in his next life. When his spirit finally becomes a bear, he is filled with such immense happiness that he starts dancing.
