Nuveeya Ipeelee

Born in 1920 (Iqualuit, Nunavut) – Died in 2010

Nuveeya Ipellie is the father of the Inuit carver Seepee Ipellie and grand-father of Jomie Aipeelee. Because Nuveeya was born into a family of artists, he was very young when he learned to carve in the traditional way; by watching other carvers sculpt.

Nuveeya Ipellie worked with serpentine, a beautiful stone found in Nunavut from the same family of jade. His main subject matter were the animals from his territory, such as muskoxen, owls, shamans and other.
