Manasie Maniapik
Born in 1939 (Iqalulik, Nunavut)
Manasie Maniapik is an Inuit sculptor who resides in Pangnirtung. His favorite subjects to carve are narwhals and Inuit hunters. The artist mainly uses serpentine, a very hard stone, as well as soapstone, also known as soapstone. The latter is softer and therefore, more used for the definition of details in his works. He enjoys sculpting with Jaco Ishulutaq, who is also a well established Inuit artist.
