Robert Hallauk

One original hand-carved sculpture by Inuit artist, Robert Hallauk. One fisherman carved out of soapstone.

Robert Hallauk is an Inuit artist from Arviat, NU.
Most artists from Arviat carve their pieces out of basalt. As this volcanic stone is very hard, the resulting work is often minimal in detail. The resulting style differs vastly fro Inuit carvings from other regions.

He carves traditional subjects of Inuit life and mythology, but utilizes the angular, abstracted style that the region is famous for. While he does not always use basalt, the form is immediately recognizable.
