Malaija Pootoogook
Born in 1971, in Iqaluit
Malaija Pootoogook has been immersed in a rich artistic environment, surrounded by family members who have made significant contributions to the art world. Her father, Paulassie, was a highly regarded sculptor, while her brother Mosesee is known for his stone carving. Another brother, Itee Pootoogook (deceased), gained recognition for his contemporary drawings. Inspired by her great-grandmother, the late Pitseolak Ashoona, Malaija created her first drawing in 1994 and has since established herself as a graphic artist.
Primarily focusing on graphic art, Malaija made her debut in the annual print collection in 2011 with two striking images of the Arctic Owl.
