Johnny Lee Pudlat

Born December 7, 1971 (Cape Dorset, Nunavut)

Johnny Lee Pudlat was born in Iqaluit – formerly known as Frobisher Bay – located at the southeastern end of Baffin Island.

His father, the late Saila Pudlat, was a well-known sculptor. His mother, Padloo Saila Pudlat, is also an artist and still sculpts the toad. Johnny Lee currently resides in Cape Dorset.

Self-made, the artist began sculpting in 1986, when he was only 15 years old. Like most artists in his region, Johnny Lee prefers to sculpt, in marble or serpentine, representations of animals from the Arctic.
