Eddie Oleekatalik

One original hand-carved sculpture by Inuit artist Eddie Oleekatalik. One Inuk carved out of serpentine stone.

Eddie Oleekatalik is an Inuit artist from Taloyoak, Nunavut. Taloyoak is the Northernmost community in mainland Canada.

In his work, Oleekatalik often depicts Inuk figures or traditional animals. The most recognizable feature of his carving is his manner of rendering the eyes. The eyes on all of his sculptures are larger than life, consisting of engraved concentric circles. The outlines of the eyes are unpolished and stand in stark contrast to the stone.
