Steve Powless (B. 1965) is a Mohawk artist and part of the Six Nations community. Located in Ontario, the Six Nations of the Grand River is the most populated First Nations reserve in Canada.

Powless, like most Iroquois sculptors, primarily carves soapstone. This tender material allows artists to create deeply intricate works. His sculptures usually depict traditional First Nations’ subject matter, notably of every day life, faces, and crops. What sets his work apart, however, are his captivating compositions and the sheer level of detail in his pieces.

Aside from carving, Powless takes great pride in advocating for his community. He tirelessly brings awareness to Indigenous topics and issues.
