Laina Geetah

1998–

Born in Iqaluit, Nunavut, in 1998, Laina Geetah is a young self-taught artist from an accomplished artistic family. She began drawing at the age of eighteen and has developed a distinctive visual language marked by bold forms, expressive lines, and an imaginative approach to her subjects.

Geetah is an artist who embraces experimentation, allowing her curiosity to lead her toward an ever-expanding range of subjects. Her work possesses a striking sense of personality, combining graphic simplicity with unexpected details and a confident, contemporary sensibility.

The year 2026 marks an important milestone in Geetah’s developing career, as she makes her debut in the prestigious annual print collection from Kinngait Studios, both as an artist and as a printmaker. Her linocut Upikjuaq Ijilu (Owl & Eye) is part of the 2026 Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection. She also created Ijingi Qaumajuuk (Bright Eyes), a hand-coloured stonecut printed by Qavavau Manumie. Earlier in the year, Geetah began exploring the stonecut process under Manumie’s guidance, opening a new chapter in her artistic practice.

With her bold imagery and willingness to explore new subjects and techniques, Laina Geetah represents an exciting emerging voice within the contemporary artistic community of Kinngait.
