Ernie Kadloo

Ernie Kadloo is an Inuit artist from Arctic Bay (Ikpiarjuk), a small community located on the northern coast of Baffin Island in Nunavut. Meaning “the pocket” in Inuktitut, Ikpiarjuk is surrounded by vast Arctic landscapes and remains closely connected to traditional Inuit life and the land.

A dedicated family man, Kadloo spends much of his time on the land and maintains a strong connection to nature through hunting and outdoor life—an important part of daily life in the North. These experiences influence the spirit and authenticity found in his work.

With a population of fewer than one thousand people, Arctic Bay is a tight-knit community where Inuktitut and English are widely spoken. Kadloo is known locally not only for his artistic practice but also for his involvement in community matters and local politics, reflecting a deep commitment to the place where he was raised.

His work carries the appreciation and respect for the land that defines life in the Arctic.
